The Boardwalk

When you stay at the Bolthole, you have exclusive access to the beautiful boardwalk that runs for 50 metres along the river and by the steam train.

There are four places to relax, starting with the sheltered corner accessible from the bedroom, where there is a café table and chairs for you to enjoy an al-fresco breakfast or a cup of coffee. A few yards along the boardwalk there’s a ‘quirky’ driftwood bench, half-way along you’ll find the swing seat and at the end, in a shady spot by the railway signal, another garden bench.

They are all perfect places to relax and watch the world float by or to wave at the passing steam trains, enjoy the busy wildlife, or toast the sun setting over Old Mill Creek.

Outdoor Store

There is also a small outdoor store – ideal for walking boots, welllies, bikes, pushchairs etc.  You will also find in a pair of beach chairs, beach wind-breakers, crab buckets and reels for your use.

The Beach

Right outside QuerQuay Bolthole is a small but rather special beach. It was once an extension of the slipway and from there Montgomery and Eisenhower launched the historic WW2 Operation Tiger – the rehearsal for the Normandy landings on D-Day.

Today you can jump down at low tide and gather driftwood, flotsam and jetsam, collect shells or fish for mackerel.  It is also a perfect spot to launch kayaks from.
